Good Hearts Meet serves adults who are struggling — financially, emotionally, and socially — to find committed partnership. This demographic does not respond to paid programming. The moment a cost appears, the people who need the work most disengage. This is a known issue among the non-profit spaces in these communities.
The teen curriculum will be provided at a reasonable cost to schools and churches, and provided for free to organizations that demonstrate a need but do not have the budget.
Counseling, support groups, and workshops for marriage-minded adults across Southern California. Includes the 'Why Marriage?' testimonial initiative and targeted field research conducted in partnership with academic advisors.
An innovative, engaging curriculum delivered in partnership with schools and churches. Covers the real financial, career, and health implications of marriage and family planning — so students can make informed decisions while they still have choices.
Good Hearts Meet has operated without institutional funding since 2020. This budget represents the first formal operating year.

Helen Asuncion has served as founder and director of Good Hearts Meet without compensation since 2020. The $54,000 salary listed here reflects a below-market, fractional rate — roughly half the fair market value for this role. It will be formally approved by the board once the founding board is seated. We present it transparently because sustainable organizations require compensated leadership.

On a systemic scale, many acknowledge the gravity of the crisis: population decline driven by dropping rates of marriage and childbirth. Schools closing, birth defects and terminated pregnancies rising. Projections telling us that there won't be enough people to take care of the present adult population as they age.
A closer look at the conflict shows that people haven't given up on wanting marriage and family. But they're having more extreme trouble getting there. Decades spent stalled in the dating phase. Later-in-life couples struggling with IVF; most only to find themselves bracing for the pursuit of parenthood by surrogate next.
But when we press rewind and look at where the problem went wrong, at society's failure to successfully prepare the younger generation for building career without sacrificing family, suddenly the problem seems to take on a frivolous aspect.
"It's just dating."
The usual players in social justice and human welfare decline to enter the space, leaving the arena clear for those who profit by breaking things.
I founded Good Hearts Meet in 2020 because I saw that singles were trapped in a nightmare, while their married friends, family members and ministry leaders were oblivious to the depth and complexity of the problem. I believed then, as I do now, that the bridges needed to help singles must be built by people who live and are rooted on the other side.
For six years, I have conducted research, hosted support groups and workshops, and performed pro bono counseling. The work has been meaningful, but not financially sustainable. Scarcity mindset and mistrust are high among the demographic that needs help the most. Rebuilding trust and safety, honing discernment in order to enable action — these are part of the cornerstones of our work. Our best chances of helping this population heal is by providing services in low-pressure, low/no-cost environments.

Low/no-cost counseling, support groups, workshops, and referrals to related services including nutrition and mental health.
An innovative curriculum that helps students understand the financial, career, and health implications of family planning decisions.
Ultimately, our goal is to champion the freedom to make informed, balanced choices. Later-in-life marriage and family options aren't choices — they're last resorts. The opportunity cost is enormous. The pain and loss involved in these journeys shouldn't be the status quo. We can do better for the next generation, and with your help, we will.
